Instructions

    On the HOST machine (PC that wants to share its desktop):

    1. The HOST machine has to be Windows. It is well tested with XP system.

    2. Check Internet Explorer settings: in the menu Toos -> Internet Options in the Security Tab bring up Internet: press Custom Level Button. Under "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" there is an option for "Download unsigned ActiveX controls". By default it is Disabled - that's why IE won't allow you to download and install it. Change this to "Prompt". And you should be able to decide if you want to download it.

    This step is required to enable the desktop sharing plugin.

    Note: never ever set this settings to Enable - any Web page would be able to install rogue ActiveX controls on your computer...

    3. Browse to link provided at bottom of this page to start a desktop sharing session. During loading, the top of browser page will flash, right click and allow for suitable permissions when prompted.

    4. You will be prompted for a pasword. Enter a pasword that will be used by viewers to access this desktop. Lets call this password SESSION-PASSWORD.

    5. If any of the above does not appear, you might be missing some windows DLLs required for this software. You can download them from Microsoft HERE. Alternatively, you can download our local copy HERE.

    6. A message with URL with appear. Copy the URL and share it with VIEWERS (PC that wants to view the shared desktop of HOST machine). Let's call this URL as SESSION-URL.

    7. Leave the page/tab open as long as you want to share the desktop. The sharing process works in background. You can minimize the browser. Whener you want to terminate the sharing session, close the tab.

    8. The demo works only 15 minutes for a session.

    On the VIEWER machine (PC that wants to view the shared desktop of HOST machine)

    1. In a(ny) browser go to the SESSION-URL. The viewer is in Java and should work on any system.

    2. You would be prompted for a VNC Password. Enter the SESSION-PASSWORD there.

    3. You should be able to see and control the HOST now.
